My Brand: My Name – My Logo

Come we now to Blogging 101 Day Fourteen. The task: Extend your brand with one of the following: a custom site icon, a custom image widget, or a fan page. Well, I have done all these things many times over. So let me tell you a bit of my history, some tips, and maybe a little bit of interesting information.

For me my primary brand is my name, Ludwig Keck. I am proud of it and I protect it all I can. You will find my name on all my sites, in all my About pages and more. I use it as my address on social sites and elsewhere.

It will come as no surprise that I have another brand, Café Ludwig, as you can clearly see at the top of this page. This is a whimsical, fun brand and is the name of my website and a couple of blogs.

LOGO-demo-1My site icons, my logos are a bit more varied and interesting. I have had a personal logo since my early school days. That logo was my mark for many years. Then, some fifty years ago, I designed a new logo for myself. I still use it to this day. It is my WordPress icon and I use it on my “professional” sites. I did not like that IBM adopted the stripes for their logo a few years after I came up with mine, but such is life.

LOGO-demo-2More recently “favicons” came in to existence. Site icons that can appear in different locations and different sizes. The tiny picture on the browser address tab is as small as 16×16 pixels. My logo has too much detail to scale well to such a small size, so I developed a new one, the “leaping K”. If you look carefully you will see that it is made of a simple “L”, another copy of it is rotated so it appears as a “J”, my middle initial, and they are merged into the “K”. Yes it took a bit of time to create this little icon. It scales well and is very recognizable, and hopefully distinct.

CafeLudwig-4001Of course, Café Ludwig deserves to have its own distinctive icon. You can see it at the top of the page and other places. Here the letter “C” blends into a script “L” – “Café Ludwig”. The “L” is similar to the initial “L” in my signature. You can see that on most every post at Silver Canvas.

DIAL-cutout-200For my websites and blogs I like to also have unique headers. The image at the top of this blog post is also used on my Flickr site, at Google+, my personal site and elsewhere. If you look closely at the right side, hopefully you will smile. There is a camera control dial like you can see on just about any camera. It has, of course, a unique twist. The dial is set to “LUDWIG”. Just a tiny bit of advertising, maybe I should say bragging, that my style is unique.

One more little bit of individualisation. In the old days when a journalist wrote up a report it was customary to indicate the end with “-30-“. A long time ago I adopted my own “end mark”. You can see it right below here.

    1. Thank you Irmgard,
You know what they say, “practice, practice, practice”. Also keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be perfect. I know, that’s hard for us Germans.

  1. Hi Ludwig your site is great. Thanks for the support you have given me during 101. I will follow your Site and aspire to emulate your set up LOL. Many thanks Paul

    1. You simply start by asking yourself “what is this about? Who am I?” Then let the ideas come. Sketch them down. Do you have some favorite topics you write about. Can you reduce those topics to a single image that says it all. Or just most of it. Let it come.
