Yearning, nostalgia, or the love of minimalism?
When I saw the Lens-Artists Challenge with the topic “minimalism” I immediately thought of my photo that I used to wish everyone a happy new year. It shows a contrail in a cloudy sky.
Contrails have been a favorite photo subject of mine for many years. They always evoke a feeling that is hard for me to describe.
Maybe it is the minimalist image that they paint into the sky. Maybe a contrail brings up long-ago memories. Maybe it is a yearning to travel to far-off places.
The dictionary defines “yearning” as “a feeling of intense longing for something, typically something that one been separated from or that is unattainable“.
My Delta account says that I have over 150 thousand miles, but I have not been on an aircraft for many years. Now travel is out of reach for me. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I did not include any of my contrail images in my challenge post Minimalism. So, here are three of them, including my contrail photo from last December, here in black-and-white.
