Windows From Afar – 3

In my little series of “windows from afar” I have stepped back from the buildings to show more of the surrounding area. Today we take a look at just one and do so way from across the Savannah River. The subject is the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa. But we do a little playing with some of my photos from back in 2011. Above you get a good look at the place. Now let’s zoom out to show even more of the countryside.

The photo on the left above is a bit bland and the building looks like it is falling over. That is “perspective distortion”, it is natural and comes when you tilt the camera up or down. Years ago I used to take pictures for a prestigious real estate company and such distortion was anathema – that means vehemently disliked. It still bothers me to this day, and I try to make correction to show buildings the way we think we see them.

And while we are at it how about those bland and overwhelming skies. And in the right photo there is some “junk” in the lower right that just distracts. Well, photo editing tools can do magic with all those annoyances.

Let’s work on the left one first. Get the building looking straight and make the sky a bit more dramatic. Here we go:

Not bad at all, but the rear end of the boat on the lower left doesn’t look good. Kazaam – out of the frame it goes.

Now how about that other photo. Can we get a dramatic sky into that one?

Presto – how about this:

Ok, ok, nice having clouds and a distant rainstorm, but that lightning bolt is photo-bombing a bit too much. Let’s get rid of it.

Better. No how about that light fixture and traffic in the lower left. Let’s just have trees there. More magic:

Just one more thing. That shadow on the trees on the far side of the river also distracts.

Alright already. How about this:

Now let’s see those photo side by side and a bit bigger.
