Tavern Windows
As we were driving around Conyers, GA, back in April we came across a colorful building. This is “The Pointe – An Olde Town Tavern”. I took just one photo. Now, months later its time has come to be shown in Monday Window.
And now also questions come up in my mind about this place and the “paintings” on its side. I went back to Google Maps to take another look at the building. Yes, it is a small, free-standing building. The Google street views here show the other sides.
The image above shows railroad tracks in front of the building. Yes, it sits right next to the tracks. What looks like its main entrance faces the tracks.
A bit of research tells us that the place was built in 1925 and was originally used as a mill operated by the Georgia Railroad. Then it became a furniture warehouse – hence the “Walker-Owens Furn. Co.” “ghost signs” on two sides. Then it became an antique store and in 2007 it became a tavern. It is still operating and here is part of the website homepage.
